A Wap Bam A Loo Wap!

AND WAP BAM BOOM!

Sorry people for posting so seldom , but I spend so much time writing an article that sometimes it is impossible to manage. But eventually I found some time, in between my school work and Grease rehearsals. And that's what this article will be about! (Grease, not school work. Thankfully). As I am thus playing as Frenchy in Grease with a local troupe ( If you live in Belgium come watch! http://www.singandswing.net/ heehee) , the movie and especially the fifties has been quite influencing my style lately - all I want to wear are swingy full circle skirts and dresses!

I already blogged about a part of Grease costumes ( remember ) let's now turn to ladies.

I really love the decade of the fifties, style wise. Actually, how could you not love it?

I love the feminine clothes with super thin wasp waists and also high waists accentuated with wide elastic belts, super full skirts or long pencil skirts, tons of makeup (eyeliner!) , and , of course 'thank you Ferragamo), stilletos (talons aiguilles, anyone?) and bien sûr Dior and the New Look!!! Do not forget, the apparition of consumption society, us! (teenagers) and...ROCK AND ROLL!!! You Tube is a great source for super cool inspiring videos...I could spend hours and hours watching the people dance. I swear they are crazy. I kinda learned to dance rock'n'roll but I look so ridiculous. I'm definitely going to take some dance classes because all I want right now is dance rock'n'roll. Don't you just love the energy and omnipresent joy and optimism? Check these out :

And sure Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Marylin... I think it's a pity we lost all that glamour dressed-up feel these days...

Basically, if anybody reading this invents a time machine, call me...I'd be glad to go 50 years back for some time

What inspires you?

EDIT : As I was looking through my "streetstyle" file, I discovered lots of 50's inspired outfit I wanted to share with you. Enjoy!

That 'now' picture is seriously the most inspiring picture that I have ever seen. I love florals! Your blog is great.

PS To clarify, your entire blog is great, not just this post, I did read others. It wasn't just a spur of the moment thing.

The fifties is absolutely my favorite decade.
sometimes I wish I had a time machine as well, but then I think "Wait, back then they didn't think of what they wore as cute or kitsch or vintage. it was just...their clothing." Weird. I wonder if someday some future generation will looks at our fugly gap jeans and "I SWEAR IM A VIRGIN" tees and sigh, "God, I wish I could go back to that time of style and elegance."
No, I'm just being a fashion pessimist- I just hope the future doesn't remember our generation as The Age Of Abercrombie & Bitch Faux-Vintage Already-Faded Tees.

I'm inspired by the Sart, Hitchcock films and my mother back in the day. I like how swooshy the skirt of that dress is.

Ooooh the fifties are the epitome with models that looked like normal aged women like Suzy Parker and Dorian Leigh. None of those 12 year olds posing for Avedon, which is why I love that decade so much. OH and the full shwingy skirts I love too. Yeah.

Grease used to inspire me, until I realized it also inspired the hatefl creators of High School Musical.

I'm graduating Boks. Won't you come to my party?

I love the fifties... My grandmother has a bunch of old dresses I love from around then, and it's so amazing, how back then everyone wore such beautiful clothes and didn't just throw on sweats every day... I totally agree with Emma, from her comment above.
