Obession Of The Moment : Part 1

Frous frous, ruffles and frills...

Were literally all over the runway. Stella, Sonia Rykiel, Lanvin, Galliano, D&G, the list goes on. But while these are all the same "item", they are very versatile and can go from delicate to edgy. It gives such a fresh pop to any outfit, and when you see the runway pictures you really feel it's spring, in its best representation.

At Sonia Rykiel the girls seemed like angels that just dropped out of a cloud. Everything was so fresh, airy, ethereal, poetic, dreamy and overall simply beautiful .

Stella McCartney made a couple flirty dresses, frilly and sheer, perfect for a hot summer day.

Luella also included ruffles and frills in her collection, which gave a super cool geeky and young vibe the designer is known for. And my personal favorite. It's the easiest to translate into your everyday wear!

D&G was , for a change, not slutty at all, but that didn't keep the clothes from being super sexy. I loved the delirious prints, and the crazy-hippie-meets-gipsy feel of the whole collection. And leather gladiators are the perfect style to complete this look.
John Galliano was, as always....Galliano. Spectacular clothes, beautiful décor, a show in its own way. The whole collection was very childish and innocent and naive, with lovely colors such as dusty pink and faded yellow. It simply seemed like a celebration of life and joy and happiness

Burberry Prorsum was also frilly, but à la Burberry girl ; as in, super-feminine while being edgy and tough with details such as patent leather, tough belts, dark sunglasses and badass ankle boots.

Lanvin....a girl can dream right? The clothes were gorgeous, with frills not on the bottom of dresses, but on the top. Unexpected and very efficient! The colors were again so rich and luxurious and deep (jewel tones = yum). It's all about elegance and high class...If I were a fashion editor, Lanvin would with no doubt be a staple. And this show was Lanvin at its pure Lanvin-ess. Congrats Alber!

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Witty Fashion Move n°1 : Become an Art Nerd

Because art makes life better , trust me.

Reason n°1 : No, fashion is not only superficial.
Forget about H&M, and turn to the just-finished Couture Week, especially Galliano. He makes all his shows such a delirious genius spectacle I wish I could eat it over and over again (That might make no sense). I was especially amused when I saw his Klimt-inspired dresses. I've loved Klimt since forever (obnoxious much?) but got even more fond of his art since I saw them , for real, in Prague and Vienna (click on city names to see!). His art is just so beautiful and touching, complicated and simple at the same time.

Maybe it's just me, but Roberto Cavalli was also quite Klimt-y. I'm talking about the big, 1900's big hair. Also,What ever happened to Roberto?? No skin, no glam, not even outrageously slutty but subtly sexy? Talk about change! I'm digging it (even though I do love slutty revealing clothes -who doesn't?).

Another unrecognizable designer show? Dolce & Gabbana!! I don't know what isup with Italians but they all of a sudden gave up on glitter-glam, favoring a more natural and fresh look. Their collections definitely stands as a favorite. Their highwaisted brocade skirts are opulently gorgeous, and the peep too ankle boots are really cool. For once I felt like their collection was more about a certain atmosphere, a certain way of putting the clothes together than actually just the clothes themselves. Get creative and channel your inner Jackson Pollock by buying fabric-paint and splattering it randomly all over old tees.

Reason n°2 :You'll meet people. Hang out in galleries, buy a Museum Pass, et put your glasses on (real or faux, to each her own. But lensless? Forget about it, too 2007) , tuck your shirt in your supercool highwaisted Chloë Sevigny pants and act brainy ( a notepad will do it) . Who knows, you may meet some supercute geek who seems even more interested in art than you (hum, not hard!) . Share some opinions about use of clair-obscur, the twisted portraits of Egon Schiele, and the latest it exhibition -not that you'll understand much (it's not the point anyway). But because you do not want to be that disorientated : Taschen books will save you (cheap and clear). For once you'll be seen reading something else than a fashion magazine (bonus points on your mum's esteem) and soon enough you'll become what you actually seem to be. YAY

Reason n°3 : It's a great source of inspiration : colors, patterns, different time eras....

Check this post from fellow blogger Lotta : http://reinedelaseine.blogspot.com/2006/09/i-seem-to-find-inspiration-in-all.html .

Reason n°4 : New hobby! Why not just fill up a blanck canvas , you may find out unexpected talents...Doing it in style is even better, as seen in a recent US VOGUE photoshoot .

And, You will surely impress everyone and prove that you're more than just a pretty face with killer style (juuust kidding)
I hope this was enough to convince you to extend and open up your culture! Trust me, you'll be really thankful. And, admit it, you couldn't do this without me. ;D Right?

Ultimate Battle

This fall, who will win? The super sexy femme fatale, or the edgy badass?

What ever look you choose, one thing is sure : those are both for strong, confident women. (okay we're still girls -whatever)

Now...Fight !

Competitor number one : The Femme Fatale. Think glam and feminine , think deep red, opulent furs, leather, long gloves, emphasized waists (belts!) , dark colours (such as navy blue, black, red, bottle green) and lots, lots, lots of leopard. Rich lipstick is a must, while for eyes, eyeliner hits the spot. Hair is glossy, smooth and soflty wavy. Inspirations : Old Hollywood glamour, 40's, ...

Competitor number 2 : The Badass! Badass girls are tough, but it ain't enough. Modern-day knights work their edgy look with all of the following: Black. Lots of black. Leather jackets, leather bags, leather dresses, everything leather. Kilograms of metal. The absolute must-have dress? Burberry Prorusm, as worn by Georgia Frost. Crocodile officer-like coats, also at Burberry, keep you warm while protecting you from psychos as no one will dare approach you in such tough gear !

Or, if like me, you can't decide if you'd rather attract boys or make them scared of you, give up fighting and choose a mix of both looks. Make love , not war! Peace in, at least, fashion world.
How to become a feminine badass : Yes for leather jackets, if with fur. Yes for black, if waists cinched. Then heels, tiny bags, long gloves, the list goes on!

Summer Heat

Again a messy-mixy post. Can't help it, my brain cannot work as it should because it's finally holidays (yayy!!) and it decided that, after numerous finals, it should take a break. So no clean stuff what-so-ever for some time now.

I really liked Cool Like Chloé 's post about summer. Read it. It kind of inspired me to write, heeee :D

Here we go.
What's hot (except the weather, heee) this summer? In Power Rangers Go land anyway. (Yup, a big land that fits in my head)

*Bobs! No, not Sponge Bob Squarepants (although I do love him), neither that working Bob-guy, I'm talking about hair bobs! I really like this 90's kid look I sported myself in the early days. As every other kid actually...so f done right , it can look really cool. Check out these people (from face Hunter). Models have caught up too. Beloved Olya Ivanisevic (patriotism again, ssssh) sports a heaaavy fringe with short carré bob whilst super-sexy super-hot Alison Nix opts for a Louise Brooks flapper haircut.
*The Greek Goddess. This summer, I decided I want to look like a Greek Goddess. Think lots of white, draping, and dark leather gladiator-inspired sandals. After spending some time in the Louvre with school, I decided the Diane Chasseresse looked really cool and her drapey dress looked very Chloé-ish back then. Check out Sophia Kokosalaki's craftsmenship! When fashion meets art...

*Your best friend : your bicycle. Eco-friendly and practical, it's got everything but bad sides : You'll save the planet, you can go where you want whenever you want , you don't have to depend on your parents to drive you somewhere (okay so this doesn't apply to US girls who can drive their own car soon) , no parking freak outs, plus you'll look hot as ever with your hair flowing in the wind and the sun shining on your skin while loosing calories and getting fit. Convinced?

*The ultimate party accessory: the cigarette-holder.If you smoke, say bye to smelly yellow fingers and say hi to elegance. I've been obsessed with those since I saw Chicago. Seriously, is there any other way to look sexy and elegant at the same time? Get in gear with a nude color palette and dropped-waist dresses à la roaring 20's or go Audrey Hepburn all the way.
*It's all about looking breath-taking with miles long legs. Think either minidresses or micro shorts. Minidresses are what you need, right now. Check out Gucci, Chloé, Christian Lacroix...
As for micro shorts, Prada fo sho! Get your grab on satin shiny micro shorts (check out Bershka) or disco-glam gliterry highwaisted hotshorts the Chanel way. But you can also go out on the streets wearing...erm, nothing. Dear little panties seemed to be designers' favorite. Why bother with bottoms when you can go out in your underwear?
*Colors : white, anyone?. Crisp, clean, bright and cool white that will refresh you from the hot sweaty summer days. Always a nice classic.

Another favorite of mine? Bright green. There is such a springy feel to it, and I feel like a flower. The dream dress? Stella mcCartney. That dress seriously looks like a jewel to me. Just look at it! It's shiny, sexy, perfectly cut and and and oooh!

Have a nice summer!

Despair is the way to beatitude

Yes, blame it on my philosophy homework for the (serious) lack of my wonderful (ahem) posts.

If despair is the way to beatitude, then I must stop hoping to get the Prada turbans , or else I'll never be happy and reach beatitude. I have to live my life the way it is (designer-free) and not dream it (designer-full).
Hope less, to live better.

Who'd dare say that fashion is superficial now?
(for any further information, read Traité du désespoir et de la béatitude by A. Comte-Sponville. Or attend at my philosophy class. I'm sure you'll do both)

Okay, so I'll stop hoping, but I can still look at the pictures, huh?

This spring, heads on the runway were tottering (does that actually mean anything?) proudly adorned. Be it satin, gems, glitter, lace or even fabric-flowers, anything goes, as long as it's not everything at the same time. Decadence, yes, but measured. You don't want to end up looking as if you stumbled and fell on your head and attracted everything that was on the ground. Or do you? (okay, that was shit. I couldn't find anything better)

At Louis Vuitton, models looked romantic with perfect-in-time-for-spring delicate flowery angelic head-ornaments but still modern and edgy with an unexpected slash of silver eyeshadow right under the eyes , whilst at Sonia Rykiel heads were decorated with Cristal-like princessy tiara-headbands(not pictured).

Chez Valentino, puffy hair was tamed with red elastic straps. So chic and sexy, plus, you can easily try this feminine look yourself! (I'm the living proof. Try H&M to find the red straps). The makeup was fresh and young, with lovely golden eyelids and a glossy bright mouth.

Marc Jacobs did tack tack tackyyyy wide fishnet-headbands with giiiigantic gems, pile in the bejewelled trend( remember). Only for the not feary. I WANT ONE! To pull this off, better keep the rest simple. Or don't.

Lazy casual-cool messy turbans and headbands with super bright matte color block crayola lipstick owned it at Marc by Marc Jacobs
Sporty wrapped up clean mess (perfect oxymoron, I know) black headbands, plus neu cat-eye makeup? Dries Van Noten, fo sho!

Glamorous, opulent, decadent...20's inspired flapper-style headbands at Ralph Lauren (Lace? Yes! Glitter? Oh yes!) I feel like I've travelled through times with a time-machine, I can already feel the extra-long feathers touch my nude back and see the dropped-waist dresses and women smoking in extra long cigarette holders. OH YES.

Oh, how could I devote an article to headwear and not mention the now infamous Prada turbans that would make Jasmine's dad proud! The shine, the jewel-toned rich colors, the shape, the the the... the everything. (And! Just look at the makeup. It simply makes me go waaaah)

SIGH

So many options, not so much money...

Lace is The New Opaque

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The title says it all.

Opaque tights : So 2006.

Lace tights : So Agyness, so 2007

Wear them, like Elise and dear Agyness, with micro-mini black shorts, or with a mini-skirt like Irina. Think mini, and there you go. Pair them with chunky wedges or tiny ankle booties/shoeboots, or suede flats. They may not be the most practical thing for now as it's rather cold, but who says you have to wear them outside? As it's soon to be party-time, dress them up with shiny mini-dresses , long glitter tanks or solid cotton ones with patent platforms.

I didn't wrote this (Kez did) but I loved it so I'll put it anyway.

"Tsubi and Cheap Monday have released coloured jeans two seasons
ago. Lia (Astrid) summed up the entire sweater dress, coloured tights and leather boots look around last year, which she did flawlessly.
The cropped leather jacket is pretty much this season's staple. Backstage at Galliano models pair a sheer graphic tee with a thin gray hoodie, patterned high tops, mildly distressed straight leg jeans and a quilted leather medium sized bag.

The coming cruise collection sees everything in jewel tones.
Admittedly, skinny jeans are still a wardrobe staple, paired with a
jewel toned top, cropped leather jacket, flat tapered boots or a dramatic heeled ankle boot and either a logo jacquard bag or a quilted leather one you can still avoid the entire top-balletflat-overused look.
Alternatively, an oversized shirt with cropped sleeves (so that it lightly caps over your shoulder) and patent leather Gauffre bag (of Miu Miu and Prada) in black or red can still be paired with skinnies and round toed pumps. As for skirts, wear them with men's dress shirts and tights, I like any leopard/cheetah accessories. YSL released a pony hair leopard cylindrical bag and Bruno Frisoni (the master behind Roger Vivier) has the most amazing pony hair leopard round toed heels. "
Kez. Aaah. Kez.

I Want I Need I Have To Find !!

Gucci-esque tights, please and thank you.

Okay so unfortunately the only pictures I managed to find of people wearing those are either tacky sluts like number 2 or em well organised chaos like number 3. But organised chaos is much better than tacky slut so I won't complain.

still, I need need need those glittery tights. They're appealing to me the way Karl would appeal to Ari, knife-handed.

So Santa, if you're reading this ( I know you are, you love my blog admit it) , I hope the message was clear. oh and if you could get me Julia's legs, I won't complain either. Thanks and goodbye!

Yaaaaa!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Prints are attacking us, taking over the whole world and making us drawn under the flooding of colors, textures and patterns.
As I previously said, too much is never enough and any reason is good to dress up and have fun (and procrastinate, too).
Dress to impress.
Attention ho? Fo sho!

Sniff Sniff I'm Sniffing A Trend

Sans titrejrwels
Yes.

Beejoowelled. Bejewelled.Bijoux-jewelled. Jewels. Jewelry. Bling-Bling. The bigger, the tackier. The tackier, the better.

I remember when I was about 6, my grandma told me that if you put small rocks in water and let them stay for a night on a full moon, the next day they will transform into shiny jewels. And it did. I got up and discovered a few "diamonds" and already started thinking about how I'll start my business, cover all my clothes with those diamonds, become rich and make money for us because at that time, it was a hard period money- wise for my parents but you don't want to know the rest.

Of course, the diamonds were fake plastic ones, but I didn't discover it until...I don't know. when grandma flew back to Serbia? My grandma is the best ever. She taught me to read Cyrillic alphabet when I was young, she told me tales every night and every day and made me believe in all sort of silly Little girl's things such as fairies and the said diamonds. I love my grandma.

So, back to the point. Jewels were literally everywhere. Viktor and Rolf, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu (last summer) and a more toned-down way at Chloé. But of course, who got the trend first? Eliza, fo sho! And if Our shiny Princess feels it, then it's going to be big, trust me (
http://insanityandstyle.blogspot.com/ ).

Remember, S/S 06, the Miu Miu bejewelled flats? Now it's Marc Jacobs' take on shiny with blingy flapper-style headbands, shoes, and necklaces. At Viktor and Rolf jewels where everywhere and most surprisingly...even on leggings!!

If you have to remember one thing for next summer : Enjoy and let the real Barbie Princess you are re surge on the surface!

(Viktor and Rolf, Marc Jacobs, V&R leggings, Eliza , Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu S/S 06 , V&R. )

Edit : Jewels/rhinestones are also good used as...make-up! From fashion156.com

The Latest It Accessory

No, it's not the new Miu Miu bag. No, it's not even the latest Gucci glittery leopard mini dress (okay, a dress in not an accessory, I know. Shut up) and neither those furry Louboutin platforms.

So, what is it??

Yep, a vintage pushchair, nothing less
