Reason n°1 : No, fashion is not only superficial.
Forget about H&M, and turn to the just-finished Couture Week, especially Galliano. He makes all his shows such a delirious genius spectacle I wish I could eat it over and over again (That might make no sense). I was especially amused when I saw his Klimt-inspired dresses. I've loved Klimt since forever (obnoxious much?) but got even more fond of his art since I saw them , for real, in Prague and Vienna (click on city names to see!). His art is just so beautiful and touching, complicated and simple at the same time.
Maybe it's just me, but Roberto Cavalli was also quite Klimt-y. I'm talking about the big, 1900's big hair. Also,What ever happened to Roberto?? No skin, no glam, not even outrageously slutty but subtly sexy? Talk about change! I'm digging it (even though I do love slutty revealing clothes -who doesn't?).
Another unrecognizable designer show? Dolce & Gabbana!! I don't know what isup with Italians but they all of a sudden gave up on glitter-glam, favoring a more natural and fresh look. Their collections definitely stands as a favorite. Their highwaisted brocade skirts are opulently gorgeous, and the peep too ankle boots are really cool. For once I felt like their collection was more about a certain atmosphere, a certain way of putting the clothes together than actually just the clothes themselves. Get creative and channel your inner Jackson Pollock by buying fabric-paint and splattering it randomly all over old tees.
Reason n°2 :You'll meet people. Hang out in galleries, buy a Museum Pass, et put your glasses on (real or faux, to each her own. But lensless? Forget about it, too 2007) , tuck your shirt in your supercool highwaisted Chloë Sevigny pants and act brainy ( a notepad will do it) . Who knows, you may meet some supercute geek who seems even more interested in art than you (hum, not hard!) . Share some opinions about use of clair-obscur, the twisted portraits of Egon Schiele, and the latest it exhibition -not that you'll understand much (it's not the point anyway). But because you do not want to be that disorientated : Taschen books will save you (cheap and clear). For once you'll be seen reading something else than a fashion magazine (bonus points on your mum's esteem) and soon enough you'll become what you actually seem to be. YAY
Reason n°3 : It's a great source of inspiration : colors, patterns, different time eras....
Check this post from fellow blogger Lotta : http://reinedelaseine.blogspot.com/2006/09/i-seem-to-find-inspiration-in-all.html .
Reason n°4 : New hobby! Why not just fill up a blanck canvas , you may find out unexpected talents...Doing it in style is even better, as seen in a recent US VOGUE photoshoot .
And, You will surely impress everyone and prove that you're more than just a pretty face with killer style (juuust kidding)
I hope this was enough to convince you to extend and open up your culture! Trust me, you'll be really thankful. And, admit it, you couldn't do this without me. ;D Right?

Dolce and Gabbana's last collection was one of my favorites last season and that was a first for that label. And I'm already an art nerd...and nerd in general!

trade links ?
What is up with the Italeins these days. No lepord print or over exposer in sight. I'm definetly liking the difference.
I'm already a self professed Art Nerd! Love klint. Good paralellsim.
Quite often a painting will pop into my head for an outfit...
What a great post! And you are right, the Italian designers are caring more about the 'inner' of the clothes. But still the models look sexy, but now in another great way.
Haha, by the word geek I think Henry from Ugly Betty right away! But being a nerd, seems so much fun at times.
Love this post, so inspiring. I definitely want to bring more art influence into the way I dress.

Brilliant post.
I was practically raised in the Kroller Muller museum.
I loved that photoshoot.
I'm really interested in trying a bit of fabric paint splatter action, but I'm scared it may well end terribly.

(Not that you weren't anyway, but you know how I love you list posts!)
And this is so great, but heyy, what makes you think I don't already hang out in museums and art galleries? hmmm?
And that is suh a good point.."For once you'll be seen reading something else than a fashion magazine (bonus points on your mum's esteem)". Very accurate!
Ohh, I wouldn't mind being in the National Portrait gallery right now.
perfect perfect post.
Great post!
I'm going to have to send you a cupcake ASAP in first class overnight mail!
I'm an art history major. All i do is study art. it is by far the best way to meet people and gain an appreciation for aesthetics. by observing all types of beauty portrayed in art, you can find one that fits you're personality and put it into your clothing.
I think you should think about actually learning about art, not just appreciating it and you will love it so much more!
I love galleries :), though there are not many of them over here :), the last one i went to was Warhol's and I really got some inspiration, after seing it, i really got into bright colours and even wanted a tee with a campbell's printed on it :)
Reading your blog, has made me realize i should start going to galleries again :), I had almost forgot about how cool is it, it's just summer, i really hate it and feel like not going out unless it's night.
♥
meh john galliano for christian dior is overrated - i wish he'd do something new than the origami stuff
im taking art classes in my school as well and i have to say the D&G collection was so inspiring
so different from their usual leopard - in a good way
i loved this post ♥
I like the idea of this post but I disagree with number 2 - if people aren't interested in art they shouldn't fake it! Personally, art's not my favorite thing, but I can appreciate having something interesting to look at. But it's ok, I'm pretty sure I already have that nerdy thing down....
You do have skill with blogging. Its very rare i read a post from start to finish but this one i read all the way through! :)
Ive always taken an intrest in art and have just posted a post [overuse of the word 'post' there!] about my new art coursework assignment.
Let me know if you have any ideas!
Molly xo.

you are lucky, the sunnies are from urban outfitters (except if you dont have the shop where you live) and thx for the b-day wishes!
I'm basically an art nerd. I go to an art studio for oil painting but I think I've tried almost all types of art, except sculpture.
I need to go to a gallery... and meet a cute boy! Haha no, I guess I am somewhat of a nerd already. I love your blog :) Thank you for linking!

great post!!
I've been going to many an art gallery lately, which is quite nice exposure. Fashion and art, do go hand in hand. And ooh Klimt + Dior is GENIUS.
love it !
i wonder if any designer might dare to venture into representing some of ron mueck's art into clothing ?
that would be a feat.
x.
jh
Love the collages..

I loved the hair, it was styled the same way in a recent Wonderland shoot and I love it, I've just learnt how to do a braided updo so I think this one's going to take some time!
I also love Gustav Klimt, he's very inspirational.
I didn't really like the Dolce collection, but Roberto surprised me.Normally I picture the majority of his clothing as something an Italian hooker would wear but not at this moment. Some of his stuff is ok ,like the fresh green gown Snejana Onopka wore in the SS06 show.
Nice blog!
First time in my whole life, I actually like a D&G collection. The arty dresses are so cool! I am kind-of-art nerd, so maybe that helps. great post.
i surely adore all your posting type, very attractive.
don't quit as well as keep writing as it just simply truly worth to read it,
looking forward to looked over more of your own content articles, thankx!
