Who are you going to look upon (style-wise , duuh) for this winter?? Chic layers à la Ashley?? Cute and laid back Rachel? Crisp and pulled-together Blair Waldorf (heee)??Bring the up caviar and the vodka, человек ! (which would be russian for "man") and I suggest....matryoshka dolls. Think colorful ethnic prints, Russian rose-printed kitschy scarves, trapper hats, fur fur and more fur to fight the long, snowy winter (which is hélas not my case. See, I'm still wearing my litlle leather jacket without being cold -at all). As for makeup , go all doll-like with rosy cheeks, and a small red pout with long long looong lashes.
For inspiration : visit Prague , or, more affordable, read about the Russian Empire/USSR ( subject of my history exam!) and check Anna Sui's Winter 08 show .
And while you're at it, re-watch Anastasia, my all-time favorite tale and childhoold icon. And learn Russian ! Haha the only thing I know is "Kak tvoja familia" = what's your name , Of course ridiculous as seen it's not written in cyrillic but hey...
(Thank you GrandMa for teaching me the cyrillic alphabet!!)

i love this look!!!! I wonder where my matryoshka doll went. I want to bring it with me for inspiration :D
aw those dollies are lovely, my aunt has one of those on her living room.
I definitely want rose-printed scarves =)
♥
Ooh I actually really like that idea, I need to find some more matryoshka doll inspired clothes! I did a post a little while ago about John Galliano's past collections and you should check out his A/W 2004 collection, it's like matryoshka dolls on crack. In a good way.
I love the lux of Russian, and bundling up in scarves like a windstorms about to hit.
i love this look and anastasia is my favorite.
This is a great style to copy
and I love love love the collages you have made, so fun!
thanks for the correction....:-) i can pronounce it but i cant spell it.
anyway brilliant collages..i've loved the russian look since i was a toddler when my mum dressed me up in a ridiculous fur trapper hat.
I like kitschy rose scarfs!
And I have the same coat-issue. I'm still wandering round in my leather jacket without being cold. But I want a new, fabulous coat so badly :P!
Great post btw.
You made me want to rewatch Doctor Zhivago, lol.
im constantly inspired by this look!! i sooo want to visit Prague!
I love Russian mistery, all the Russian looks are surrounded by a mysterious atmosphere, it's very interesting. I had "matriuskas" (the Russian dolls) when I was a child, and I still keep them!
Oh ethnic russian prints sounds so lovely for winter.

haha i love those dolls! very good comparison :)
The Babooshka doll is one of the ultimate anti-icons!
When I was a kid I used to love playing with them at my Granny's house.
Inspired!
I have wanted to visit Moscow for quite a while now..
i have quite a few babooshka dolls hanging around my room...
anastasia was always a favourite of mine, too. i read all the books about her. she was my childhood icon.
im loving all the layers, the rich colours & patterns.
makes me wish it would snow! :]
My fav fashion icons... Boka and the dolls...
i love the prints, very sixties!
cute cute cute!
The look also reminds me a little bit of Kate Bush, loving the whole fur hat, flower print thing. I also really, really want to visit Prague, everyone I know whos been there says its absolutely beautiful.
Such a great inspiration. I've been drawing nesting dolls in runway outfits for months now and have been searching for jewelry with them for just a long. Love them.
that is wonderful, I bought a divine fur hat at a fleemarket in summer in an excentric mood- hearing intuition calling!

I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF. I've been taking Russian in school to learn how to read and write it (I never mastered that, I only knew how to speak it) and I was just able to decipher the word "balalaikas." This blog- not just hilarious and stylish and fab, but actually HELPING me with my homework! Thanks, Bojana!
avrils representing canada sooo badly
its terrible!
I love Russian inspired looks. Anna Sui is amazing, and a Michael Kors ad campaign a while ago was very Russian, with big furry hats and I just loved it. Thank you for the comment :] Great post.

hi (:
It's USSR, not URSS. It's like if someone said, "I live in the SU of A." Makes no sense.
Thanks for poiting it out, anonymous. URSS is not wrong, that is the french way (I should remind you that english is not my fist, nor second, but 4th language). So yes, URSS in French, USSR in english. Will fix it right away
hey
im just wondering if you're russian???
i am and i just happened to stumble upon your blog. thanks for posting about Russia; no one ever does!
xxxx
Good words.
