Girlcrush : Meet Fleur

Fleur is Dutch, 18, lives in the Netherlands, recently started modeling ( I predict she's the next big thing!) , enjoys going to music festivals with her friends, has killer personal style and you're just about to get to know her.

-First, how did you get started as a model?
I spend a lot of time on the Dutch Ellegirl forum. There are a lot of scouts there because of the beautiful young girls with model potential . One day somebody asked me if I could send them a few more pictures of myself. And after that they wanted me to come to Amsterdam to the agency.

- What do you dislike most about modeling?
The fake people and the industry can be very harsh to you.

-What do you do the most often : shows, photoshoots??
I do both. I prefer photoshoots though, because they're more creative. You can put your own personality in there most of the time.
But at shows you get a real adrenaline rush and that is also really cool.

-Would you like to pursue modeling for as long as possible or is it just a "side activity"
It wasn't my ambition to be a model, but because it went very well and I got signed with the international agency IMG I decided to start fulltime this year. After that I will definitely do some kind of study, something with fashion, probably styling.

-You really seem to dress "for yourself", not caring about trends and so on. Is it really that way?
Hmmm, I watch the trends, pick the ones I like and then make them fit to my own style and yes I dress for myself but also to make people look a little bit longer :P

-Where do you usually shop? Also, where would you never shop?
I shop everywhere, I like it to combine items from different shops. Back in the days I would wear a whole H&M outfit, but I don't want/like that any more. And I would shop everywhere, it gives me a kick to get a very cool item from I shop I don't really like.

-What is your favorite clothing item ever?
I think just a simple white t-shirt, always looks cool.

-Something you couldn't live without ?
My I-pod, I looooooove music!

-Your last buy? And the next one?
Black gladiator heels, grey ankle boots with silver studs and loafers with an embroidered pattern. And the next one would be a big coat à la Burberry Prorsum.

-What kind of comments do people make about your style?
That my outfits are well styled and that I look like a hippie.

-Favorite fashion designer?
There are sooo many designers I like. I like Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Prada, Luella and Burberry most of the time, cool, young and easy to wear. But there are a lot of designers from which I like a certain collection.

-Something you dream about having but can't afford
That Burberry coat again :P

-Most stylish city?
I went to Paris, Copenhagen, Berlin and Antwerp. But I think Paris is the most stylish. In some of the areas ALL people that you see are stylish and well dressed but on the other hand when people look bad dressed they REALLY look bad dressed. I find Copenhagen very refreshing and, Berlin is just very cool, I really feel comfortable there and in Antwerp I know my way very well.

-Something you'd never be caught dead in?
I hate synthetic clothes, clothes with big brandnames on them and everything that makes you look cheap.

-Favorite movie?
Again soo much, I watch a lot of movies. The German movie Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo, Pulp Fiction, Cold Mountain, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Candy, Kill Bill and I find 50first dates a very cute comedy. I also like the classic horror movies like Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Oomen.

-What have you been listening to lately?
A lot of Alice in Chains and The Doors. And I think "Into the galaxy" from the Midnight Juggernauts is a very catchy and groovy song.

-What do you do in your free time?
Hang out with my friends, listen to music, going to festivals and concerts, party, do creative stuff, cook, watch movies and that's about it.

Back in shape

After some dissapointing last collections, seems like Marc Jacobs is back in top-shape.! And I'm back in love with him!

Paris FW : Louis Vuitton.

OMG. LOUIS VUITTON!

I loved loved LOVED it!! It was so crazy and colorful and just so creative!! Like some kind of neo-african-tribal remix on acid worn at a black-tie event. Truly inspiring. One of my favorite shows from Paris.

First, the colors. A lot of them! They were all so rich and deep and beautiful! On their own, and mixed together.

Then, the clothes themselves : whoa. The patterns are amazing, the textures aswell (I know, feather skirts? Nothing new, and very last season. But on to become new season! ). I loved the way blazers were reinvented, worn on bare skin and cinched with neo-kimono belts, looking all but your conventional blazer look! Ie, a crazy, colorful, very creative look ( Haha slighlty repeating myself )

I was seriously in love with the bags, which is a big first for me ; I usually never take a look at bags, let alone at LV monogrammed ones!! But these...haaa. YUM

And to top off....the more than stunning shoes. because, as Glossy said it, "shoes are the exclamation point to your legs" ( on to become my favorite sentence and I shall use it even more as seen the only posts in preparation I have are about...shoes! ) Anyway they left me breathless.

All in all, a collection that may seem to complicated, to busy, too many things going on...but that's precisely what I love about fashion! Remember : too much is never enough.

So. This break from blogging has been way too long. I've been promising to post something since March. And it's September. I miss blogging. And bloggers. And really just the word, blog. How great does it sound? Blog blog blog blog. I get all excited when I hear that word.

Some friend of mine told me about a cobrasnake picture or something saying "Be There or Be there". Finding it quite accurate, I decided to shake things up and, fronting that dilemma ( I know, I can hear you gasp) ,to choose between the first and the latter. After some painful brain-stroming and existential thinking, guess which one I picked?

Obession Of The Moment : Part 1

Frous frous, ruffles and frills...

Were literally all over the runway. Stella, Sonia Rykiel, Lanvin, Galliano, D&G, the list goes on. But while these are all the same "item", they are very versatile and can go from delicate to edgy. It gives such a fresh pop to any outfit, and when you see the runway pictures you really feel it's spring, in its best representation.

At Sonia Rykiel the girls seemed like angels that just dropped out of a cloud. Everything was so fresh, airy, ethereal, poetic, dreamy and overall simply beautiful .

Stella McCartney made a couple flirty dresses, frilly and sheer, perfect for a hot summer day.

Luella also included ruffles and frills in her collection, which gave a super cool geeky and young vibe the designer is known for. And my personal favorite. It's the easiest to translate into your everyday wear!


D&G was , for a change, not slutty at all, but that didn't keep the clothes from being super sexy. I loved the delirious prints, and the crazy-hippie-meets-gipsy feel of the whole collection. And leather gladiators are the perfect style to complete this look.
John Galliano was, as always....Galliano. Spectacular clothes, beautiful décor, a show in its own way. The whole collection was very childish and innocent and naive, with lovely colors such as dusty pink and faded yellow. It simply seemed like a celebration of life and joy and happiness

Burberry Prorsum was also frilly, but à la Burberry girl ; as in, super-feminine while being edgy and tough with details such as patent leather, tough belts, dark sunglasses and badass ankle boots.

Lanvin....a girl can dream right? The clothes were gorgeous, with frills not on the bottom of dresses, but on the top. Unexpected and very efficient! The colors were again so rich and luxurious and deep (jewel tones = yum). It's all about elegance and high class...If I were a fashion editor, Lanvin would with no doubt be a staple. And this show was Lanvin at its pure Lanvin-ess. Congrats Alber!

I can't wait for Gossip Girl to come back, with more drama, more action, more catfights, back-stabbing situations, and , most of all, clothes!!

The OTT tutu is just wow, and Jenny's shoes....those Miu Miu platforms from last summer (and still covetable), and....Serena's ankle boots! I know thee pictures aren't exactly great as seen they're wearing stuff to keep them warm ( Blair Waldorf in UGGs ?? ) , but still, you get the idea...

Could it be that everyone's favorite supermodel has dissapeared, for good?? The girl who's been dominating the catwalks for nearly 3 years hasn't got one single show so far for the new season. Has our favorite baby/alien/doll -face gained weight?? After the bootylicious body she showed off at Chanel, I was hoping for some change in supermodeldom. More normal looking girls, less skeletons. But the Ali Michael "scandal" has shown us that, no, there still is no change. Even the most famous girls can be muses at a time, boycotted at another. The fashion industry shows no mercy, that's for sure.

Witty Fashion Move n°1 : Become an Art Nerd

Because art makes life better , trust me.

Reason n°1 : No, fashion is not only superficial.
Forget about H&M, and turn to the just-finished Couture Week, especially Galliano. He makes all his shows such a delirious genius spectacle I wish I could eat it over and over again (That might make no sense). I was especially amused when I saw his Klimt-inspired dresses. I've loved Klimt since forever (obnoxious much?) but got even more fond of his art since I saw them , for real, in Prague and Vienna (click on city names to see!). His art is just so beautiful and touching, complicated and simple at the same time.

Maybe it's just me, but Roberto Cavalli was also quite Klimt-y. I'm talking about the big, 1900's big hair. Also,What ever happened to Roberto?? No skin, no glam, not even outrageously slutty but subtly sexy? Talk about change! I'm digging it (even though I do love slutty revealing clothes -who doesn't?).

Another unrecognizable designer show? Dolce & Gabbana!! I don't know what isup with Italians but they all of a sudden gave up on glitter-glam, favoring a more natural and fresh look. Their collections definitely stands as a favorite. Their highwaisted brocade skirts are opulently gorgeous, and the peep too ankle boots are really cool. For once I felt like their collection was more about a certain atmosphere, a certain way of putting the clothes together than actually just the clothes themselves. Get creative and channel your inner Jackson Pollock by buying fabric-paint and splattering it randomly all over old tees.

Reason n°2 :You'll meet people. Hang out in galleries, buy a Museum Pass, et put your glasses on (real or faux, to each her own. But lensless? Forget about it, too 2007) , tuck your shirt in your supercool highwaisted Chloë Sevigny pants and act brainy ( a notepad will do it) . Who knows, you may meet some supercute geek who seems even more interested in art than you (hum, not hard!) . Share some opinions about use of clair-obscur, the twisted portraits of Egon Schiele, and the latest it exhibition -not that you'll understand much (it's not the point anyway). But because you do not want to be that disorientated : Taschen books will save you (cheap and clear). For once you'll be seen reading something else than a fashion magazine (bonus points on your mum's esteem) and soon enough you'll become what you actually seem to be. YAY

Reason n°3 : It's a great source of inspiration : colors, patterns, different time eras....

I hope this was enough to convince you to extend and open up your culture! Trust me, you'll be really thankful. And, admit it, you couldn't do this without me. ;D Right?

Green is the new black, only better

Green is the hot thing right now, in every possible way.

What inspired me to write this? So, I went to see Atonement while I was in Bruges and I fell in love with, what seems to me, the prettiest dress ever, and I am now developing an obsession with green , even though my infatuation with green dresses started a while ago, first with a shot of an Nylon intern, and then with this gorgeous dress by Stella McCartney (which led to this ) and now I'm seeing green everywhere.
Onto other green stuff (um ,not that green stuff), I'm mad about the Boston Celtics (if you didn't get it, I'm talking NBA). Getting Kevin Garnett in their team was a damn good choice. They are having a stunning season, standing tall as first in the eastern conference, leading by 33 wins and only 7 losses up to now! ( so you may not know this about me yet, but I'm a basketball freak. This spring I'm going to visit NYC with my family and get to attend 2 basketball games!!! (Heat vs Knicks, and then Nets vs Suns! Talk about amazing).

I'm also developing a crush on super hot Micky Green (Green not being her real family name, but chose it as seen green is her favorite color). The girl is absolutely gorgeous, looking more as if she were of Nordic origins than Aussie. Her voice is deep and low, and her music is so appropriate for a calm afternoon doing DYI's on your bedroom floor. (as seen not everyone seems to know her, check her out : http://www.myspace.com/mickygreenmusic "Oh!" is my favorite)
Last but not least, vote green (yes, I am aware that most of us don't even have the legal age yet -whatever). The best way to save the planet is : use your bike! I was amazed in Flanders ; most people there go everywhere by bike, and they have huuuge parkings for bicycles. And really how chic is it? All round girls in heels and beautiful long coats cycling it up. Not convinced yet? This Sartorialist picture is sure to make you change your mind!(Remember)

De retour

Back from an exciting week in Flanders, where I stayed in possibly the cutest, prettiest city ever : Bruges. Met leuke meijsjes, en mooie jongens (nice girls, gorgeous boys - I'm not even exagerating. I swear I've never seen so many hot boys in one school!! I want, need to go back there. Heee. My friends and I went totally hysteric. And when I say hysteric, I mean it. We even took (bad) paparazzi shots of them, when we didn't take a picture with them.) . I met a bunch of great people, had a lot of fun, and improved my dutch.
Anyone, if you ever get the chance to take part into an exchange program, don't think about it twice, just do it! It's the third time I do this kind of thing and it just makes me really happy.

As a new year begins, new year's resolutions are flowing!! You know, those statements you promise to follow but actually always give up? Hah. I'm not giving up any of them soon. I Hope!

* Mika : I've always loved his music but never payed much attention to him. Now I'm having a huuuuuge crush on the curly haired crazy boy. Isn't he adorable? So simple outfits made of super bright colored skinny jeans, simple white button downs, and possibly glitter suspenders.

* Blair Waldorf : I want to become super chic super glam super elegant and sophisticated. But still with a hint of me because, I'm, well, everything but elegant hahaha. Preppy up with ruffles, white blouses, cardigans, diamonds, shirts, plaid, highwaists, headbands, patent leather, bows, lace, and colors such as black, red,navy blue, bottle green and white + growig my hair out! Wooohoo, I'm all excited, can't wait for sales to go Blair Waldorfising myself :)

*Swedish girls effortless cool. Need I say more?

* To sum up : My 2008 style, for now, shall be Mika-meets-Blair Waldorf-and-they-share-their-shirts,-yes -I'm-swedish-I'm cool-Bojana style. How exciting does that sound?

3. Get in shape, aka the usual eat less, exercise more. Not beginning on a good note since my bro and I managed to eat a box full of Neuhaus chocolates for...less than you could imagine. So instead, get all Blake-Lively-aka-Bridget-sporty in the sisterhood of the travelling pants . And play tennis like Ana Ivanovic (reaching for the stars? pretty much much much). Oh and I put Venus Williams because she's got, like, the hottest legs ever.

4. FINISH HARRY POTTER 7!!! It should really be about time

5. Get decent paint skills. Cuz this is just ridiculous :)
